New Tourism Minister appointed

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

The positive prospect of having a new government is also having a newly appointed Minister for Tourism, MP John Penrose who has pledged to take tourism far more seriously than his predessesor in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games! And not only does he understand the importance of London staging the world’s ultimate event, but he is also MP for a seaside constituency, namely Weston-Super-Mare and so hopefully also understands the seasonal challenges of running an SME in a resort, such as ours in Weymouth! Pledges are one thing, action is another of course but improving the “Visitor Experience” and encouraging domestic and inbound tourism after the Labour Government’s failure to invest at such a critical time, fills us full of optimism once again.

Mary Queen of Shops in Dorset

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Did you see Mary Queen of Shops on BBC2 on Saturday 19 June? She was in Corfe Caste, Dorset rescuing the local village store! Part of her solution was to introduce and integrate the owners (who had moved down from London) into the local community which involved going on a pheasant shoot, picking sloe berries and hazelnuts, understanding local farmers and seeing where local fresh produce comes from. Crealls of Corfe Village Shop now stocks home made and home baked local produce from Dorset which is exactly what visitors and tourists to Dorset want!
